After many years of leading and relying upon image-based evidence in the courtroom, teaching international imagery law in several countries, and recently being awarded a PhD from Leiden University in the Netherlands on the use of non-textual evidence in international criminal prosecutions, I am pleased to announce that my book Image-Based Evidence in International Criminal Prosecutions: Charting a Path Forward is now available. My publisher, Oxford University Press, is publishing the book in both hardcover and electronic format. It is available from OUP and several other booksellers.
Chapter titles are as follows:
Chapter 1 – Image-Based Evidence as a Method of Proof
Chapter 2 – Image-Based Evidence as a Didactic Tool
Chapter 3 – The Democratization of Image-Based Evidence
Chapter 4 – Selectivity and Image-Based Evidence
Chapter 5 – Questioning the Reliability of Image-Based Evidence
Chapter 6 – Pictures Do Not Speak for Themselves
Chapter 7 – The Authentication of Image-Based Evidence
Chapter 8 – Emerging Frontiers in Image-Based Evidence
Chapter 9 – Conclusions: Charting a Path Forward
The book is aimed at a broad audience – counsel, judges, imagery experts, investigators, academics, and those with an interest in image-based evidence generally. It is intended to assist in improving visual literacy and in using image-based evidence in the search for the truth. Though my book is situated in international criminal prosecutions, it will also be of significant value at the domestic level.
